It’s Around Here Somewhere

Old folk like me face many perils, like brittle broken hips;
Hearing that fades and eyes that dim and a memory that slips.
When I begin to write a poem it happens all the time.
I start a phrase to make a point and forget the words that, that.

I would not mind so very much except it cramps my style.
But if I wait and think real hard it comes to me after, after.
But words are not the only thing that I’m prone to misplace;
Keys, remote and favorite books, sometimes the whole bookcase.

Take my wife (not literally) she is the sweetest friend.
She lost her Bible some time back, which bothered her no end.
So naturally I bought her one, for it’s now her favorite book.
Now that is when I found it in the last place you would look. (bookshelf)

So when dealing with your aging folk, be gentle sweet and kind.
Soon you too will get that way. You’ll think you’ve lost your, your.
The only thing I have not lost is my humor and my jest.
But where’d I laid my glasses down. Now that’s my next big quest.
